In 1946, Russell Kelly began a business that became Kelly Girls Services, Inc. Nearly 100 percent of its revenues came from placing secretaries and clericals in temporary jobs. These assignments where typically 1 – 5 days in length.

While these placements still exist, office placements made today include professions such as: accounting, engineering, management executives, sales consultants etc. Often these skilled jobs require top pay and are long term in nature.

Staffing firms that make clerical and professional placements require unlimited payroll funding in order to fill long term or high volume orders. They also require an automated back office process that allows them to quickly generate payroll, invoicing and management reports.
